Dear all,
As indicated earlier, we have now started working on organization of a ‘Global level virtual consultation on Youth Perspectives on Rio+20’ linked with an e-survey on the same theme. We look forward to partner with some of you who are interested to discover real youth contexts in this higher level debate on Rio+20. Details will be shared in coming weeks. In the mean time, we would appreciate seeing your feedbacks/suggestions.
Our previous experience of running virtual consultation/e-discussions was quite positive. In recent past we had organized three such discussions on the Rio+20 theme; namely the e-discussion on Sustainable Mountain Development in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region (April 2011, 200 contributions, 296 participants), the South and Central Asia regional virtual consultation on youth perspectives on Rio +20 (May 2011, 550 participants, 400 contributions), and the e-Conference on Sustainable Mountain Development in the Southeast Asia, June 1-30, 2011 (June 2011, more than 160 participants), which were warmly welcomed by SMD communities across the region with an exceptionally high number of participants and extremely valuable contributions. Similarly very recently concluded 'Youth Forum on Climate Actions and Mountain Issues', 8-12 August 2011 have broken the ground of this debate adopting the (1) Asia Pacific Youth Declaration on Climate Change and Sustainable Development and the (2) Asia Pacific Youth Position paper on Rio+20.
We see Global level virtual consultation on Youth Perspectives on Rio+20 as scaling up of the South and Central Asia regional virtual consultation on youth perspectives on Rio +20, that will largely benefit from outputs of previous three virtual debates on the same theme as well from outputs of the Asia Pacific Youth Forum (Declaration and Position Paper), and at the end will deliver youth perspectives on Rio+20, together with thematic and activity priorities drawn from the e-survey. Going beyond from a typical Rio+20 debate, here we’ll try to find ‘right space’ from youth in Rio+20 process and develop recommendations that helps to create enabling environment for youth to move ahead in this direction. I will be finalizing a dedicated blog with detailed info later this week. Attached presentation should give you basic idea about how it works and what kind of platforms can be used for this purpose.
Sorry for little late as we are now badly occupied finalizing ‘Regional Assessment Report on SMD in the Hindu Kush-Himalayas (HKH) and the Asia Pacific region on Rio+20’ for MPC/FAO (Task Manager Ch 13, Agenda 21).
Let's work together to refine our knowledge in coming days!
Best,
Tek Jung Mahat
